47HC Celebration Derricks: 1957
While John Frank struggled to make his business a success during the great depression he could see all around him fortunes based on extracting oil from beneath the Oklahoma plains. He was left to deal with the dirt itself, or rather some very special dirt, the Ada and Sapulpa clay deposits. Having been dealt a tough hand he made the best of it.
Soon after the fire of November 1938 John Frank designed and began to market his oil derrick shaker set. After ceasing production of the piece in the mid-1940's Frankoma re-introduced the design with some modifications in 1950.
Because of the smooth base surfaces the design was a natural selection for the 1957 celebration shakers. The inscriptions are different on each piece of the set. One piece says "1957 Semi-Centennial" and the other piece says "Oklahoma Celebration". The collector will commonly find these "paired" with the same inscription on both pieces.
As with the other celebration sets, the available glazes are prairie green, desert gold, white sand, clay blue, turquoise, and terra cotta rose. The turquoise glaze is missing here.
